Energizing South is a flagship initiative of CII organized in partnership with the southern states and will be hosted in one of the southern states each year.
Energizing South aims to support industrial, economic and social growth by convening thoughts and ideas on making Power Sector in South India more vibrant to support the national GDP goals. The initiative is planned in line with goals of the Government of India and gives special emphasis for the Southern States.
Power is one of the most critical components of infrastructure crucial for the economic growth and welfare of nations. The existence and development of adequate infrastructure is essential for sustained growth of the Indian economy. The southern part of India consisting of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana states; contributes 29 per cent to India’s GDP as of 2015-16. The gross state domestic product (GSDP) for South India states have grown at a rate greater than India’s overall GDP on back of robust FDI inflows. The FDI inflows via the four regional offices in the South India accounts for USD 7 billion which is 16.1 per cent of the total FDI inflow in the country in 2016-17. With emergence of manufacturing hubs in India under Make in India Programme, there would be requirement of efficient and reliable power. Ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all, is one of the key sustainable goals India has taken which requires the support of all stakeholders.
The key objectives of the conference are to connect with key stakeholders on the issues pertaining to Power & Renewable Sector, understand the opportunities for organizations in the Power & Renewable Sector and further assess the measures to be taken at various levels that will ensure reliable power for all, both in quality and quantity.
