The defence manufacturing industry is one of the emerging sectors in India. Presently, the defence sector is one of the largest importers of conventional defence equipment and spends around 30% of its total defence budget on capital acquisitions. 60% of defence related requirements are currently met through imports. With a strong thrust on the manufacturing sector by the Government of India and initiatives like Make in India, the government is already focusing on its efforts to increase the indigenous defence manufacturing and become self-reliant.
As you are aware CII has also been continuously working towards enhancing the business competitiveness and creating platforms for new business opportunities for the manufacturing Industry. Over the years CII has created various platforms to promote the growth of manufacturing sector in India. As we look at enabling the growth of manufacturing sector grow, today, there are several Indian companies that can or has the potential to cater to the emerging Defence requirements by supplying sub-assemblies, components and maintenance services
Given this background, I am pleased to inform you that Confederation of Indian industry is organising an Industry mission to Bangalore on 24th & 25th May 2018 with a focus on business opportunities and partnerships with leading defence OEM’s / PSU’s in India. The objective of the mission is to understand the emerging business opportunities and the procedures of working with large defence PSU’s and OEMs in India.
