Indian agriculture sector is critical to growth and development of the Indian economy given the fact that 50 per cent population of India depends upon agriculture for their livelihood.
Over the years, multiple factors like growth in household income and consumption, expansion in the food processing sector and increase in agricultural exports have worked together to drive the growth of this sector. However, persistent low level of farmers’ income continues to be the biggest challenge in the country.
Against this backdrop, Confederation of Indian Industry (Cll) is organizing the Agriculture Conclave: From Food Security to Income Security on Wednesday, 4th October, 2017 at CII NR Headquarters, Sector 31 A, Chandigarh.
The Conclave will feature specialized sessions and focused discussion on:
Policy Reforms pertaining to Aggregation of Farm Produce through Farmer Producer Organization / Farmer Cooperatives (FPOs), Contract Farming and Land Leasing.
Role of Biotechnology in enhancing the yields, nutritional profile, stress tolerance and crop protection.
Role of robust marketing infrastructure - Commodity Exchanges, eNAM, Retailers / Processors / Exporters and other novel marketing channels for better price realisation.
Diversification towards horticulture and livestock as a pathway for enhancing farmers’ incomes.
