The Indian auto industry is one of the largest in the world. The industry accounts for 7.1 per cent of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Of which, Maharashtra accounts for approximately 35.1 per cent of the country's automobile output by value.
The Indian auto industry has witnessed rapid change and is gearing up in order to compete at the global level. The regulation push towards smart, clean and safe mobility is driving major technological changes. Government of India is planning to introduce alternative fuels including ethanol, methanol and biofuel based vehicles for road and water transportation to cut fossil fuel imports.
Government of India’s big push for the smart city project has provided an opportunity to introduce and promote various technological interventions in the field of public transportation, amongst other initiatives for the different cities of India. The focus is now shifting towards moving people smartly and efficiently.
All these changes require the auto industry to transform into value-added manufacturing with focus on advanced automation, design and engineering capabilities thus making domestic players more competitive both in the domestic and international market, and at the same time promoting India as a preferred global manufacturing destination.
It is quite clear therefore, that in this fast evolving sector there are numerous opportunities laced with challenges. And, in order to stay ahead of the curve, mapping the road ahead is crucial. It is with this background that the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is organizing ‘Indian Automobile Industry: Gearing up for Transformation’ on Monday, 29 January 2018, Hotel Taj Mahal Palace, Colaba, Mumbai
This conference will delve into a breadth of issues relating to the Auto sector in India and aims to bring together all stakeholders on a common platform to deliberate on key issues in the sector.
