Manufacturing has always been the growth engine driving the economy of a nation. Companies are restructuring Operations and world class practices in their bid to expand profits and become competitive globally. Looking at the journey of the Indian Production system from 1950 until today, we can see the progress and prospectus of a fast emerging India, which also enables us to visualize where we want to go.
However to shoulder the responsibility of progress and improvement, we will have to gauge the pace of growth based on the fact that we have to achieve in the next 6-7 years what developed countries have accomplished over decades. Indian people are good in adapting, we inherited various production systems from British, USA, Europe and now lately Japan. Although, these systems are proven and operating well in their respective countries but not worked well in India.
Looking at the scenario of Indian Industry Mr C Narasimhan (CN)- Mentor CII Cluster Programme, who has privilege of getting being trained under Japanese masters like Shigeo Shingo, Tsuda, Washio, Kume, Iwata and also successfully challenged prestigious Deming prize and later Japan Quality medal, put his experience and learning in writing Indian Production System (IPS), has designed and developed “The Indian Production System” over the past 20 years with the cluster approach. IPS is home grown, indigenised production system tailor made for India.
