The government has been working assiduously to create a conducive business climate in the country, which has started yielding favourable results for the industry. This is well reflected in the results of the recently released Business Reform Action Plan (BRAP) Survey by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), which assesses and ranks 36 States / UTs based on implementation of business reforms, showing rapid improvement in the business climate at pan-India level. Large many states are establishing an online Single Window System (SWS), and focussing on digitizing the procedures for compliances related to labour laws, inspections, environment, contract enforcement, among others. Land acquisition is also being simplified with digitization of land records, introduction of Geographical Information System (GIS) and introduction of easier land conversion policies in a number of states. The continued momentum of business reforms, under the ambit of BRAP and outside it, has translated into growing reduction of the documentary, regulatory and compliance cost for the industry.
In the current issue of CII quarterly ‘Ease of Doing Business Watch’, experts shed light on the key results and findings of the latest BRAP Survey and other business reforms.
