Two Days GST Training Programmes

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has taken up a range of initiatives to encourage the industry to be proactive in managing GST compliance by launching a two-day training programme in Visakhapatnam.

The objective of the 2 days training programme was to make industry aware and understand the impact and opportunities offered by this particular piece of legislation. GST will affect all industries, irrespective of the sector. It will impact the entire value chain of operations, namely procurement, manufacturing, distribution, warehousing, sales, and pricing. It will also trigger the need to relook at internal organisation IT systems.

CII has been granted Approved Training Partner (ATP) status to impart GST training by National Academy of Customs, Excise and Narcotics (NACEN) with Institute of Company Secretaries of India. Its technical partners are GST Street and Tax Sutra.

The key issues that has been covered in this training programme include introduction to GST and overview of the model GST law; registration provisions; time and supply and valuation of goods and services, input tax credit; payment of tax; cross utilization of CGST/SGST/IGST; GST returns and matching of credit; refunds; IT enablement and ERP solutions; transitional provisions and GST- impact study; and sectoral analysis: manufacturing/services.

Mr D Tirupati Raju, Chairman, CII Visakhapatnam and Executive Vice Chairman, Vijayanagar Biotech Ltd said that GST will be India's most significant indirect tax reform in decades. It represents not just a change in the indirect tax regime, but also a major business transformation. GST is expected to usher in a harmonized national market of goods and services and shall lead to a simplified, assesse-friendly tax administration system. He also informed that a helpline will also be launched where the programme participants can discuss their queries. In addition, an awareness campaign has been launched to inform industry about the GST processes.

Addressing the gathering, Mr K Nagendra, Deputy Commissioner, Commercial Tax explained the concept of GST and its various components which would add to the economic growth of the country and would be beneficial for industry. He also informed that Andhra Pradesh is ready for the landmark tax reform of GST which is expected to bring significant economic growth as well as increase employment.

Mr B Hareram, IRS, Commissioner, Central Excise, Customs and Service Tax addressed the participants on Government’s Perspective on how GST is going to be a game changer. He assured that though we may face some difficulty at the initial stage, but as we move on it will provide all comfort the tax payers.

Ms AVS Lalitha Sundari, a Chartered Accountant by profession, presented the Overview of GST Law, Rules and Supply. During her presentation she explained various terms with examples for a better understanding.

Mr C N Ananth Narayan, Superintendent, Department of Central Excise, Customs and Service Tax made the session lively by discussing on Composition Levy, Taxable Person, Registration, Tax returns, Invoicing & Valuation.

In his presentation, Mr Joseph G Patil, IRS, Assistant Commissioner, Department of Central Excise, Customs & Service Tax briefed about the Transitional Provisions in GST and its significance.

Mrs S Haritha Poornima, Additional General Manager (TBU), State Bank of India – Amaravati Circle demonstrated the infrastructure they have on offer on SBI Digital Banking for a seamless way to GST.


Around 100 participants from different sectors of the industry and professionals participated in the session and got benefited.
