CII Madurai organised the conference and exhibition titled “CII Madurai Rubber 2017”. The two-day conference and exhibition, which was inaugurated today, will deliberate on various aspects of growth and development of rubber industry.

In his keynote address Mr P Vijayaraghavan, Director, TVS Srichakra Ltd mentioned that the global market boundaries are shrinking and competition is growing. We should keep thinking on how we will achieve our growth level in the competitive global market place. As the future of automobile industry is very strong, there are plenty of opportunities for rubber industry in the automobile sector. Mr Vijayaraghavan said that to achieve competitiveness and excellence in world market, one has to be innovative; work towards zero defect and zero waste. Companies should focus green manufacturing technologies to achieve better productivity. Concentrating on innovative processes and adaptation of technological advancement are the way forward to be a world class organisation. Other key factors such as cost consciousness and tapping the best human potential; motivating the employees are also important to be successful, Mr Vijayaraghavan added.

Mr K J Janakar, Managing Director, Helar Marketing & Consultants Pvt Ltd, in his address spoke about the need for a better skill sets for Rubber industry. In India, we have around 15 Universities and 22 polytechniques, who are offering rubber technology courses. Industry could play a key role in brining in a strong skill eco system in the technical rubber institutions. The right skill set coupled with sound technical team is required for rubber industry to grow strongly. There are more than 6000 MSME rubber units present in India. The business opportunities for MSMEs in Rubber sector is tremendous. Currently, the turnover of the auto component industry is over US $ 43000 and is growing further strongly. Therefore, the business opportunities for both the tyre and non-tyre segments are enormous. Madurai has tremendous potential to be a big rubber manufacturing hub in Southern India. According to Mr Janakar, CII could play a major role in strengthening MSMEs in rubber sector.

Mr P Srinivasavaradhan, Chairman, CII Madurai Zone in his address said that the rubber industry in India is a sunrise sector and it has a great growth potential in the coming years. With our size of population, India certainly will be a market for the future. It is predicted that by 2020, the Indian rubber industry will be one of the top two sectors at the global level. The rubber industry of Madurai contributes 20% of Mardurai GDP and the sector has huge potential to grow in Madurai. Mr Srinivasavaradhan further added that the CII Madurai Rubber is being organised at a right time to promote Madurai as a growing Rubber Manufacturing hub in the Southern India. The two-day conference offers a wide range of topics – being addressed by a galaxy of eminent speakers and technical experts from the industry. The conference also provides an excellent platform to showcase products; processes and technologies in rubber industry. He was confident the exhibition at the conference will be a wonderful B2B platform for creating new business opportunities as well.

Mr P G S Dinesh Davidson, Convenor of the CII Madurai Manufacturing Panel in his address spoke about the Madurai’s history of being one of the strong rubber industry bases in India. He said we need to further leverage the strength of Madurai rubber industry and the conference like CII Madurai Rubber will create the right platform for all the stakeholders to achieve the main objective.

Dr S Rajamohan, Vice Chairman of CII Madurai Zone thanked all the speakers; exhibitors and participants at the Conference.

The conference is also featuring sessions dealing with rubber mixing; advancement in rubber industry; business opportunities & challenges; material testing; quality system and skill development in rubber industry.

The conference is being attended by over 250 delegates from the Rubber industry across India attending.
