State level Workshop for HP Based ITIs By DGE&T, State Technical Education Department and CII

The Confederation of Indian Industry, Northern Region in association with Directorate General of Employment & Training (DGET) Ministry of Labour and Employment Government of India and Department of Technical Education, Government of Himachal Pradesh organised a State level ITI Workshop / Stakeholders Meet on 04th July 2012 at Nalagarh, Himachal Pradesh.

The objective of this workshop was to sensitize the principals and IMC members of 33 State Level ITIs of Himachal on ‘Upgradation of Govt. ITIs under Public Private Partnership Scheme’ and its implementation process. The 4 ITIs of Himachal shared the best practices and success story of their achievements. The day long workshop was followed by Visit to ITI Nalagarh where the ITI Principal and IMC Chairman highlighted their achievements and shared the IMCs success story / various skills initiatives taken by this institution.

Mr. V.K Singh, Director (Administration) Directorate General of Employment & Training (DGET) Ministry of Labour and Employment Government of India gave his presentation on ‘Upgradation of Govt. ITIs under PPP Scheme’ and mentioned about constitution of awards by DGET for the best performing ITIs. Later he shared the best practices of 5 ITIs. He made special mention about the performance of ITI Nalagarh and the initiative taken by Mr Rajender Guleria IMC Chairman, Nalagarh ITI and Co Chair CII Special Task Force on Skills and Education, CII Northern Region. He in his concluding remarks expressed his appreciation to CII for the effort that was made to improve the upgradation process of ITIs in the region. He mentioned that this was one of the most professional and focused state level Workshop on the issues of ITIs and he urged CII to take this initiative to the other States of Northern Region.

Mr. Vijay Chandan, Director Technical Education & Industrial training, Govt. of Himachal thanked CII for holding the workshop for State level ITIs. He stressed upon the competency, to create intellectual human capital and to help the industry to perform better. Mr. Chandan mentioned that there is dire need to focus on the skills and competencies of the students to make them employable. He also highlighted upon the course/ content development process of the existing and new curriculum of the ITIs and invite industry to provide their support in this area. He emphasized on evolving better strategies, human resource management, productivity and better training facilities. He appreciated DGE&T efforts and said that DGE&T is the strongest tool in creating skilled resource for the nation.  He mentioned that ITIs students in Himachal are very hard working and we should focus on developing the cross-culture skills, social skills and language skills of our students. He also highlighted upon the content development process of the existing and new curriculum in ITIs and asked industry to provide their inputs and support in this area.

Mr Rajender Guleria, Co Chairman CII Special Taskforce on Skills & Education, Northern Region in his remarks emphasized on the need of skilling youth with employable skills. He mentioned that we should take advantage of demographic dividend of our country. We should empower our youths and train them on industry relevant skills as it is very important sub-system of the economy. He also talked about empowering youth by providing skills trainings to improve manpower at state and national level. He mentioned that the focus of the today’s workshop is to strengthen the ITIs, encourage them to upgrade and make ITI self sustainable in our ecosystem. He revealed that the quality of infrastructure and manpower is better in the state of Himachal Pradesh and the need is to take it to the next level of maturity. He opined that the participation of all stakeholders is a must to improve the quality of ITIs in order to transform them into Institutes of Excellence.

Mr R Guleria gave deep insights into the CII NR's 'Implementation Code for ITIs' assisting ITIs to improve upon the basic infrastructure facilities; equipping the existing ITIs in terms of infrastructure, trained faculty and better training facilities. He explained how the ITI adopted by his company could effectively utilize the funds given by DGET to make the ITI a role model in the country and also generating revenue of Rs. 4 Cr. through various IMC initiatives. The DGET Govt. of India also appreciated the work done at ITI Nalagarh.

Mr. C N Dhar, Chairman, CII HP State Council, paid special compliment to CII Special Task Force on Skills & Education to organize this workshop at Nalagarh. He mentioned that CII Task Force on Skills and Education should take this to other states too as Skill development was very much a thrust area. He congratulated DGE&T for the efforts taken to empower and enrich ITIs by providing various skill development schemes while at the same time said quality is a big issue at all level of education and we all should work towards improvement of this issue. He appealed industry to provide unwavering support to this initiative.

Mr Arun Rawat, President BBNI Association, CII Panel Convener Skills & Education, Himachal Pradesh emphasized on use of technology and quality education, change of curriculum, innovation and R&D in education.

The workshop was well attended by over 50 participants.
