CII Conference stressed on greater linkages between Industry and Academia for Entrepreneurship and Skill Development

CII Eastern Region in association with S K M University, Dumka organized a Conference on Industry Academia Linkages on Entrepreneurship and Skill Development in Deoghar.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest, Mr Nishikant Dubey, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), Godda stated congratulated CII for organizing such an important programme on a relevant topic. He said that Deoghar has a long traditional and cultural history. He said that two agricultural colleges, one Dairy Engineering College, two medical colleges and hospitals are coming up in the Santhal Pargana. 127 km rail route is coming up between Deoghar and an international airport in Deoghar would be set up shortly. He further stated that the Government of India has sanctioned a mega silk cluster in the Santhal Pargana. He urged CII to work towards the overall growth and development of the Santhal Pargana.

Mr Sandipan Chakravortty, Chairman, CII National Development Council & Past Chairman, CII Eastern Region said that the focus of CII as the apex industry association has always been on competitiveness building and sustenance. CII has undertaken several skill development initiatives in the backward areas of the country. He stated that CII has undertaken an initiative to come up with District Development Plan and Employability Potential Assessment study in the select districts of the Eastern Region. The Confederation has also set up Skill Gurukuls in Gumla and Purnia. Several other skill centres are also operational in the region.

Mr Aloke Mookherjea, Chairman, Education & Skill Development Subcommittee & Past Chairman, CII Eastern Region avowed that India cannot call itself as a developed country unless it develops skills. CII has engaged itself in the area of skill development across the country. He stated that the Confederation has come up with the Skill Gap analysis in the states of the Eastern Region and depending on the outcome is undertaking skill interventions in the respective states. Besides providing hard skill training, CII also works in the area of providing soft skill training. CII and AICTE are planning to conduct an all India survey of colleges. He also put emphasis on entrepreneurship development. He concluded by saying “Train for Skill, Hire for Attitude”.

Prof (Dr) M Basheer Ahmed Khan, Vice Chancellor, Sido Kanhu Murmu University, Dumka stated that Industry – Academia Linkages are of immense importance to ensure entrepreneurial and skill development. With a large working age population, the country must design an action plan for their employment.

Mr Prakash Sarode, Member, CII Jharkhand Council and Dr Saugat Mukherjee, Regional Director, CII Eastern Region also addressed the gathering.
