The chief of bureau business desk  “Public private partnership models needs to be encouraged for treating the waste”  says, Mr. A K PARIDA, IAS, Director General,  Environment protection and training research institute ,  20 December 2012, Hyderabad, Confederation of Indian Industry organized Conference on Environmental Resource Conservation Reduce, Reuse and Recycle here today. Speaking at the inaugural session of the Conference.

Mr. A K Parida, IAS, Director General, Environment Protection Research Institute in his keynote address said that there is a need to encourage Public Private Partnership models in recycling the waste generated from local bodies and industries for further value addition. The present mechanisms are inadequate for treating the various wastes, he said. He felt that there is a need to have balanced approach for accelerating the economic growth and preserving the environment. Focusing on the means to reduce the use of environmental resources he urged the industry to adopt new technologies for protecting environment for future generations. He was of the view that there is a need to consider the elasticity of employment while accelerating economic growth.

Mr. Navin Mittal, IAS, Special Commissioner, Greater Hyderabad Muncipal Corporation in his special address pointed out that treating the waste is important for promoting cleaner cities. However, the municipalities are facing the resource shortage for treating both solid waste as well as liquid waste, he said. In order to address the resource shortage for municipalities he felt that there is a need to have mechanism for financially empowering the urban local bodies. Expressing optimism, he said that upcoming Goods Service Tax legislation can transfer more funds to local bodies, he said. Setting the theme for the Conference.

Mr. Goutham Reddy, Convener – CII Andhra Pradesh Environment Panel & Executive Director, Ramky Group in his address is of the view that managing the pollution is important for promoting the sustainable economic growth. The present budget allocation by Government for treating the waste is inadequate, he felt.

He said that numerous mechanisms are presently available for treating the solid waste and industrial waste in the country. Advocating the reuse and recycling of the waste he was of the view that there is greater business case for treating the waste.

Ms. Suchitra Ella, Chairperson, CII Andhra Pradesh & Joint Managing Director, Bharat Biotech International Ltd in her welcome address said that Confederation of Indian Industry is working on improving the environment and reducing the pollution. In this regard CII - Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre has set the standards and norms for energy conservation and environment protection. Mr. Ashok Reddy, Vice Chairman, CII Andhra Pradesh & President (Global HR & Corp. Affairs) Infotech Enterprises Ltd delivered the concluding remarks.
