National Conference on Green Buildings & Renewable Energy

CII Rajasthan and Indian Green Business Council (IGBC) Jaipur Chapter organized National Conference on Green Buildings & Renewable Energy on 9 May 2013 at Jaipur. Programme was partnered by Department of Urban Development & Housing, Government of Rajasthan and Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation (RREC).

Her Excellency Smt Margaret Alva, Hon’ble Governor of Rajasthan was the Chief Guest for the programme. Dr G S Sandhu, Addl Chief Secretary – UDH & LSG, Government of Rajasthan; Mr Shailendra Agarwal, Principal Secretary – Energy and Chairman & Managing Director, Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Ltd; Mr Kuldeep Ranka, Commissner, Jaipur Development Authority and SRP also addressed at the Inaugural Session.

Few of the very senior speakers including Mr Prashant Kapoor, Principal Industry Specialist - Green Building, IFC - World Bank, Washington DC and Mr Nimish Patel, Leading Architect & partner, ABHIKRAM addressed at the Technical Session. Other speakers at the sessions were from Welspun Energy Ltd, Inox Wind, REIL, AECOM, Carrier India, etc.

Around 160 delegates attended the inaugural session and local media covered the event very well. Few of the points discussed & emerged out of the conference are as follows:-

• Green Buildings to play a catalytic role in addressing environmental issues, energy, water and other climate concerns,
• Energy is the key to progress but at the same time it is a big challenge as well,
• In the field of wind energy also, India is globally positioned at no.5 by generating 11000 MW wind energy after US, Germany, China and Spain,
• Climate change presents a unique and most daunting challenge faced by the world today and to protect the society at large we need to diminish the impact of climatic changes, therefore need is to adopt the concept of green buildings,
• Various good technologies available in the market which are associated with Green Buildings,
• It is the responsibility of the industry, government and society to think proactively then only one would be able to contribute positively towards green buildings concept and renewable energy,
• Green Buildings and suggested measures towards making a Green Rajasthan:

a. Solar Airconditioning
b. Green townships
c. Green landscaping
d. Green roofs and walls
e. Cean Energy
f. Promote Green Hospitals
g. Promote Green Schools

• Carbon dioxide and green house guesses are the main cause behind the climate change and to get to solutions, government and private sector has to work together,
• Companies have to reduce water consumption in processing plants, conserve energy and save environment,
• Long term policy interventions, attracting investments, providing financing mechanisms & developing innovative technologies are some of the vital factors, which could provide a major fillip to the Renewable Energy efforts in the country and specifically in the state of Rajasthan,
• Building sector accounts for 30-40 % of global Green House Gas emissions.
