Ms Sumitra Mahajan, Hon’ble Speaker of the 16th Lok Sabha inaugurated the Delhi Chapter of Indian Women Network (IWN) today at a Conference organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Women Leadership and Empowerment.
Indian Women Network (IWN) of CII works towards enabling women, help them to overcome career related fears - through continuous learning, sharing & mentoring to help become better professionals & achievers in their respective fields of expertise.
Ms Sumitra Mahajan in her inaugural address stressed upon the need for gender neutrality and focus on women empowerment oriented government policies. She urged the women to enter in the fields which have less women representation. She also invited corporate sector to develop gender related policies and be sensitive to women employees needs. She spoke about her experience of working in an area like politics where there are fewer women. She mentioned that even though there are barriers for women to work and lead, these barriers and perception have reduced overtime.
Further she added that men must play a more encouraging role. She said that women are better time managers than men. She emphasized that every women should not confine themselves to only house hold activities but should come forward and take charge to make better change. Congratulating CII on the initiative of IWN, she urged the women to be frontrunners in all walks of life.
Ms Meenakshi Lekhi, Member of Parliament-New Delhi interacted with the audience at a Special Plenary Session. Ms Lekhi shared about her experience as a woman as an individual and said that respect is the most important attribute for a woman for the contribution she makes for the society.
Ms Lekhi suggested that the mapping should be done to identify the vulnerable and the non-vulnerable sections of the society which would be certainly help government and the society in addressing the concerns for making the positive impact in the lives of the women from all walks of life.
Talking about the Surat as an apt example for the security, Ms Lekhi said that the similar would be replicated by having CCTV cameras in Delhi for ensuring the better security of women. Ms Lekhi also mentioned about the positive amendments which National Commission for Women is planning and she mentioned about the “Rakhsha” mobile application which has been launched by the present government for the Safety and Security of Women.
Ms Rashmi Singh, Executive Director, National Mission for Empowerment of Women, Ministry of Women and Child Development called out to the women in India to break all barriers and enter the workforce, contributing greatly to the economy.
Mr Zubin Irani, Chairman, CII Northern Region and President, Building & Industrial Systems, United Technologies Corporation India Pvt. Ltd. while delivering Welcome Remarks stressed at the importance of safety and security of women at workplaces in India. He conveyed that every organization should provide healthy atmosphere for women to work.
Mr Arjun Wallia, Chairman, CII Delhi State Council and Group Founder and Chairman, The Walsons Group and Securitas India emphasized that for India to grow, it must focus at harnessing the energies, the talent and the contributions of all our people and most importantly of our women. He said that the perspectives women bring with them are mostly the game changers in a complex world. Sharing his professional experience, he said that women are most efficient and productive and the time has come for IWN - an initiative to change the world.
The Delhi Chapter of IWN announced Mrs Radha Bhatia, Chairperson, The Bird Group as its 1st Chairwoman and Mrs Manpreet Brar Wallia, Director, The Walsons Group as the Vice Chairwoman.
