Technology is the driving force for Engineering Sector
Sep 18, 2014

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organized the 3rd edition of CII's Engineering Summit 2014. The Summit focused on bringing out an outline of future of the Indian engineering industry which is world class in terms of Integrating Engineering to Changing Environment & Sustaining the Same, Optimize the Engineering to Eliminate Time, Cost and Defect, and incorporating Value Engineering as a Force Multiplier and at the same time has the option of scalability to the next level.

Mr K Venkat Reddy, Vice Chairman – CII Central Gujarat Zonal Council & Managing Director, Kusters Calico Machinery Ltd. said “India is fast moving from exporting low-value goods to developing countries to exporting high-value goods to developed countries. With development in associated sectors such as automotive, industrial goods and infrastructure, coupled with a well-developed technical human resources pool, engineering exports are expected to touch US$ 120 billion by 2015. “Engineering exports are likely to grow in India with the new government set to take bold decisions that will boost the sector”.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Yatindra R Sharma, Past Chairman – CII Gujarat State Council & Managing Director, KHS Machinery Pvt. Ltd. said that “The future is not only about opportunities though; it is also overcoming the key challenges that confront our manufacturing sector in general and the engineering industry in particular. These challenges are multifarious, and relate as much to regulatory, governance and other environment issues, as they do the task of reorienting corporate management teams towards investing in internal capabilities like quality systems, innovation and flexibility in business models. Meeting these challenges inevitably means more change – change in the structure and business practices of the engineering sector; thus I believe that the change has just began”.

Mr K Nandakumar, Chairman – CII WR SME Committee & Chairman & Managing Director, Chemtrols Industries Ltd. said that Technology is the need of the hour for Engineering Industry. Engineering Industry should be managed by qualified professionals backed by strong Project Management skills.

“CII from the years of its inception has been spearheading Indian Industry and with the Changing Environment both at home and over the globe it is time to redefined from a general common name of production outfit not as a paradigm shift but to syntagmatic approach where we as Engineers can provide a dimension of Engineering to New Horizons for achieving Growth and Sustenance.

Pure engineering talent involved in design innovation, the Indian engineering sector is second to none. However what we lack a wider understanding which we can understand from the expertise of the distinguished experts who have circumvented disruptive technologies and put their management expertise to writes new realm of business”. said Mr Sunil Desai, Chairman – CII’s 3rd edition of Engineering Summit 2014 & Convener – CII’s Central Gujarat Zonal Panel on MSMEs & Managing Director, Richfield Engineering India Pvt. Ltd.
