USD 3 Billion Office Automation & Imaging Industry Positioned to Deliver the Objectives of ‘Digital India’

Dwelling on the vision of ‘Technology for India’, Mr Vipin Tyagi, Executive Director, Centre for Development of Telematics urged the industry to make a conscious choice of being a creator of technology. Drawing the attention of the gathering to interesting facts and figures related to the unimaginable need for digitization, particularly in the rural areas, Mr Tyagi strongly recommended indigenous research and development as key to achieving the desired objectives.   Mr Tyagi was addressing the National Seminar on Office Automation and Imaging Industry, organized by CII today in Delhi

Earlier addressing the gathering, Mr S N Srivastava, Additional Director General (Supply), Directorate General of Supply & Disposal,  said that with effect from 1 January 2015 DGS&D would achieve complete digitization, doing away with the manual processing of files that’s currently being followed.   Emphasizing the potential of the industry in delivering the ambitious objectives of ‘Digital India’, Mr Srivastava talked about the need for strengthening of infrastructure, better standards and robust testing facilities.

Lending his views on the occasion, Mr S N Tripathi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises  highlighted the role of digitization as a significant tool for ‘democratization of information’.  Mr Tripathi further elaborated on the positive part that digitization can play in the growth and expansion of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.    

While acknowledging the indispensable role being played by digitization in creating an energy efficient economy, Mr Saurabh Diddi shared BEE’s progressive vision of making energy efficiency standards mandatory over a period of time.

Introducing the theme of the Seminar, Dr Bhardwaj welcomed the ‘fresh air of leadership by the new Government’ and assured that with new energy and enthusiasm instilled by this leadership, the Office Automation & Imaging Industry would be able to realize the objectives envisaged including ‘Digital India’.

The Seminar provided a platform to highlight and deliberate on the strategic importance of OA&I products in realizing the vision of smart & secure nation, imparting need based and customized skills, extending the reach of existing pedagogic system and enhancing the quality of education, harnessing the demographic dividend, identify potential areas of application where the deployment of OA&I products would result in higher productivity, efficiency and in turn result in raising quality of life.

The Office Automation & Imaging (OA&I) sector has come to be recognized as key to personal and organizational productivity. The product categories covered by this sector are integral to Information Communication Technology (ICT) industry and are increasingly finding tremendous opportunity in myriad of applications be it in e-Governance, Education, Healthcare, Insurance, Rural Development, Smart cities, Surveillance etc. and playing a vital role in empowering inclusive growth and making the businesses more efficient. The ‘Digital India’ initiative is one of the most focused agenda for the Govt. and OA&I products would be the key to realizing Government’s vision of Digital India and Smart Cities.

In the above background, the CII Office Automation & Imaging Division organized the fifth edition of its Annual Event with the theme Digital India for Skilled, Smart & Secure Nation.
