Constituted in 2002, Young Indians (Yi) is an integral part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and aims to create a platform for young Indians to realise the dream of a developed nation. "To become the Voice of Young Indians Globally" being the vision of Yi, it’s work is divided primarily into three groups; "Youth Leadership", "Nation Building” and “International Engagements”.

Yi Dehradun became the 38th chapter to be launched on 28 July 2015.

Delivering the keynote address Mr Ashish Bharat Ram, Managing Director, SRF Ltd said that India has the largest youth population in the world today and with the economy set to take off, the youth will drive the nation. India has more than 50% of its population below the age of 25 and more than 65% below the age of 35. It is expected that, in 2020, the average age of an Indian will be 29 years, compared to 37 for China and 48 for Japan.

Interacting with the youth from State Mr Bharat Ram shared his views on the role that the youth can play in shaping the future of the country, going forward. He added that the youth hopes for a world free of poverty, unemployment, inequality and exploitation of man by man. A world free of discrimination on the grounds of race, colour, language and gender; a world full of creative challenges and opportunities to conquer them. ‘But let us convert these hopes into reality’, he urged.

Mr Suresh Redhu, Vice Chairman CII Uttarakhand State Council highlighted that under Nation Building, Yi engages its members under the board categories of education, environment, healthcare, employability, arts (sports & culture) and rural initiatives contributing positively to its surrounding eco system and the nation. He added that international engagements for providing exposure and global connect to the youth , is also an important activity of Yi. He highlighted that Yi is one of the proud founders of the G20 Young Entrepreneurs' Alliance which is a collective of leading entrepreneurially-minded organizations representing the G20 countries who seek to promote youth entrepreneurship.

Delivering the theme address Ms Lovelena Mody, said that India’s population is large, “young” and full of optimism for the future. It is therefore important to channelize this vast youth energy effectively. Between the Yi membership and amongst young Indians at large we already have and need to continue to build a large pool of thought leadership and grassroot implementation skill sets, a combination of which I believe will lead India to the status of a developed nation.
