Indian Economy to become 100% Digitized by 2020: Dr Gulshan Rai, National Cyber Security Coordinator, GoI

With the rapid explosion of technologies, the Indian economy which is currently digitized at 50 % is expected to reach 100 % by 2020, according to Dr Gulshan Rai, National Cyber Security Coordinator, Government of India and Chief Guest at the 3rd edition of the National CIO Summit, which was organized by Confederation of Indian Industry today.

Dr Rai added that the digital transformation is being fueled by rapid innovation in the technology space. On the flip side, this transformation makes any country vulnerable to cyber threats. India ranks amongst the five top most countries for malware penetration and security breaches. This makes the role of CIO extremely critical for an organization and there is an urgent need for stakeholders to collaborate and share best practices for risk mitigation.

In his welcome remarks, Mr Rajesh Uppal, Co-Chairman, CII National CIO Forum and Executive Director – Information Technology at Maruti Suzuki said that the Digital revolution with the support of social media, mobile, analytics and cloud technology is producing numerous opportunities for industry across sectors to generate value in totally different ways redefining their business.

Mr Arnab Mitra, Director, KPMG said that mobility, social networking, Customer Centricity & Optimization of Supply Chain are four key forces driving the Digital Transformation. Digital Transformation can be considered as the convergence of new business model, customer centricity and technology innovation. Organizations need to build capabilities to walk through this transformation. Successful digital transformation depends on its degree of simplicity from adoption perspective. The risks needs to be identified and a proper mitigation plan needs to be in place.

Mr Varun Sood, Co-Chairman, CII National CIO Forum and CIO and Head, Strategic Initiatives, Fortis Healthcare Ltd in his concluding remarks said that in this era of Digital Transformation and evolving ecosystem and latest technological developments, industry needs to consider adopting not just a proactive strategy but a predictive strategy when it comes to staying ahead of threats to protect their information and systems.
