Hong Kong can Build and Finance India’s Infrastructure: Hong Kong Chief Executive

According to The Honourable C Y Leung, GBM, GBS, JP, Chief Executive, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong can help build and finance India’s infrastructure. The Chief Executive was speaking at a Session on India – Hong Kong SAR: Translating Ties into Business Opportunities organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry in New Delhi today. 

Mr. Leung highlighted the fact that Hong Kong position as a global financial services hub places it in a unique position to help finance India’s infrastructure requirements. 

He stated that India’s economic rise has caught the attention of the world and of Hong Kong as well. He pointed out that bilateral trade between India and Hong Kong was growing at a healthy pace of 12% in 2014 and was confident that this growth would continue in the coming years as well. 

Mr. Leung invited Indian industry to invest in Hong Kong. Some of the areas, in his view, where Indian and Hong Kong companies could cooperate include information technology and technology and innovation. 

Addressing the participants, Mr. Naresh Goyal, Chairman, Jet Airways (India) Ltd., stated that Hong Kong was the gateway for Indian companies to enter China. He was of the view that the reforms being undertaken in India can offer many opportunities for Hong Kong companies to invest in India. He was of the view that tourism offered tremendous potential for cooperation between the two companies. 

Earlier, welcoming the participants, Dr. Naushad Forbes, President  Designate, CII stated that sectors such as Media & Entertainment, Healthcare, Education and Tourism offered much scope for cooperation between India and Hong Kong. He also announced the setting up of a CII Core Group on Hong Kong which would work on a strategy to forge closer bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries.
