The Confederation of Indian Industry Eastern Region (CII ER) comprises of the states of Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa and West Bengal. The Eastern Region witnessed substantial economic growth in recent times and is now booming with confidence. The eastern region of India is a land of huge potential and is endowed with plenty of rich minerals, forests, productive and fertile soil and rich cultural heritage. Given the available natural resources and quality manpower, the key growth engines in this part of the world are Iron & Steel, Power, Mines & Minerals, Tourism, Agro & food processing, Infrastructure, IT & ITES, Petrochemicals, Leather, Real Estate, Retail and Cement. The Eastern states have immense potential for large-scale production and export of spices, jute, and other agro products. A spurt in investments coming to these states is an indication of a bright future for trade and industry in the region. There has been a continuous improvement in the hard and soft infrastructure. The growth of IT & ITES, Healthcare and Tourism in the eastern states coupled with rapidly developing educational sector unfolds unique advantage adding to the rich intellectual base of the region. CII ER is involving itself more and more - not only in facilitating the industries but also in promoting social development with a focus on overall progress of the region. The Confederation in the Eastern Region work towards drawing focus on the ‘East’, showcasing the region’s inherent strengths and advantages. In alingnment with the regional theme - Eastern India @ 75 : The Emerging Agenda and to project Eastern Region enblock to the rest of the world, CII is working on building synergies within the five states in the region through dedicated forums like Biz Bridge, ICT East, Infra East, Logistics Colloquium, SME East, Healthcare East, Tourism East besides many others.

Key Initiative of Orissa State Office
• CII Orissa acts an interface between the state government and industries. It is plays an active role in state government investment promotion and sustenance activities • CII Orissa State Council had helped the government to modify the Comprehensive Development Plan of the Khurda, Jatni & Cuttack prepared by IIT Kharagpur • Tourism, R&R, MSME Policy was modified by CII Orissa State Council. • Labour Reform mechanism were recommended to labour commissioner of the State • CII Orissa had organized a Review meeting with Chief Secretary, Development Commissioner & Agriculture Production Commissioner- cum Chairman Pollution Control Board on issues of industries of Orissa • An Advisory meeting with Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik on what action state government needs to take to sustain MOU industries in Orissa • CII orissa is in dialogue with NGO, State Government and industries to prepare a model R&R practice for the state • District Development Plan of Khurda, Balasore, Jajpur and Jharsuguda is being prepared • A skill gap report had been prepared in partnership with PWC • A work skill centre is being established at Balasore • The Syllabus of Diploma engineers was modified by CII Orissa Capacity Building Panel
 
Key Initiative of Jharkhand State Office
CII Jharkhand Council has been making concerted efforts in the direction of bringing growth and development in the State right from its inception in the year 2000. The Council facilitated Department of Industries, Govt. of Jharkhand in coming up with an Industrial Policy of Jharkhand in the year 2001. The Council also partnered Govt. in successfully organizing Udyog Mela 2007 in Ranchi & facilitating Jharkhand pavilion in IITF 2008(India international Trade Fair) at New Delhi. In order to enhance the competitiveness of industry members, CII Jharkhand Council continues to organise number of training programmes, major Conferences, seminars, workshops on Manufacturing, Agro & Food Processing, Environment, Mining & Coal, Social Development & Community Affairs, Behavioral Skills & Information Technology, as well as interactions with key Govt. Officials at Ranchi ,Jamshedpur and also at Bokaro. The Council recently called on the Hon’ble Chief Minister & Deputy Chief Minister of Jharkhand and presented them with CII Vision document : Jharkhand @ 2022, a Sustainable Vision document encompassing hope & aspiration of the people of Jharkhand. The insight of the document is aimed at enabling the key decision makers to plan and implement findings at the grass root level, leading to sustained growth and development of the State.
 
Key Initiative of West Bengal State Office
CII - West Bengal State Council has been regularly working towards creating a right platform for interaction, meetings while taking up contentious issues with the relevant authorities. The Council’s resolute to strengthen the very fundamentals of economy and build a resonating state remains unabated. West Bengal State Council is also focusing on a) District Development b) Abating Climate Change and c) Disaster Management - the three key areas which require a lot of attention. In addition to the above, the Council has been regularly organizing programs covering different issues & subjects for the benefit of our members. West Bengal @ 2022 is one of the other major initiatives wherein the Council has tried to identify the potential areas of growth and benchmark them for continuous development.

CII GRIEVED BY THE SAD DEMISE OF SHRI JYOTI BASU, FORMER CHIEF MINISTER OF WEST BENGAL, THE NATION HAS LOST ONE OF THE TALLEST LEADERS: VENU SRINIVASAN

CII Awards & Recognitions
 
CII (ER) Annual Productivity Awards
Every year CII (ER) has an annual award scheme to recognize the excellence of its members in the sphere of productivity during the year. The award is to recognise excellence in Productivity in an organization. The objective of this award is to give recognition to member companies who are making systematic and serious attempts to enhance productivity. The award was instituted in the early 1980s which recognises significant improvements in productivity as well as achievement of a sustained high level of overall productivity. The Award is presented during the Annual Regional Meeting of CII Eastern Region.
 
CII(ER) Quality Award
CII (ER) has been giving Quality Awards since 1988. The objectives of presenting these Awards are two-fold. 1. Recognizing a CII (ER) member company, which can serve as a model to others in methods & systems, practiced in pursuing the concept of “Total Quality”. 2. Encouraging competition amongst members for bringing about further improvements in these methods and systems for moving towards “Total Quality”.
 
Energy Conservation Award (ENCON)
CII (ER) has an annual award scheme to recognize the excellence of its members in the spheres of energy sector during the year. The excellence in Energy Conservation (ENCON) Award is to acknowledge the vision and exemplary commitment the CEO and his team has for Energy Conservation. The objective of this Award is to give recognition to the member companies who are making systematic, commendable and serious attempts for efficient utilisation and efforts towards significant improvement in conservation of energy. The Award is presented during the occasion of the Annual Regional Meeting of CII (ER).
 
Safety Health & Environment Award (SHE)
CII (ER) has an annual award scheme to recognize the excellence of its members in the spheres of safety sector during the year. The excellence in Safety Health & environment (SHE) Award is to acknowledge the vision and exemplary commitment the CEO and his team has for Environmental Responsibility, concern for occupational Health and Safety of employees and society as a whole. The objective of this Award is to evaluate an Organization’s interest towards the well being of its employees through adequate measures, not only for the Regulatory requirements, but also as a part of the Management’s Commitment towards ensuring that the workforce is adequately protected through effective Safety, Health & Environment measures. The Award is presented during the occasion of the Annual Regional Meeting of CII (ER).
