The State of Andhra Pradesh with its liberal labour laws, proactive policies, quality power with competitive tariff, large pool of technical manpower, rich mineral resources and specialized industrial parks with SEZ status is the preferred destination for investors. Andhra Pradesh is strategically located and is considered as gateway to East & South East Asia.
The Average economic growth rate for the period 2001-02 to 2007-08 is 7.45%. Andhra Pradesh is among the largest producers of food grains, fruits, vegetables, cotton, maize, dairy and poultry products in the country. It has been net exporter of many agro products. The State is home to many large Public and Private Sector companies.

A leader in Infrastructure growth in the country, the state has completed numerous successful projects under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) and has the credit of being the first state government to have the Infrastructure Enabling Act (IDEA). Visakhapatnam port as the largest port with enhanced cargo handling capacity and development of ports in the private sector at Gangavaram, Krishnapatnam, Nizampatnam and Kakinada is rapidily fueling the industrial growth in the state.
Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam are becoming the nerve centres for manufacturing, Information technology, Tourism and Services and are home to several Institutes / Centres of Excellence in Research & Development, Education, Hospitality and Governance.
Andhra Pradesh also holds the distinction as a dynamic state with the first international Fab City in India. The new 8-lane Outer Ring Road, more then 42 Special Economic Zones, a number of IT and ITeS industries, Universities, Research Institutes, massive irrigation projects and 10 new seaports form part of rapid infrastructure development of the State.
Andhra Pradesh has the most transparent and proactive and investor friendly government. It Is 2rd among the top 10 Investment destination states in India with the Industrial investments in the state crossing Rs.123.5 billion during the last three and half years. The State made rapid strides in software manufacturing and is among the top 3 states in software exports from the country.
The state government embarked upon a balanced growth and development for the State wherein the State would turn into a 'Haritandhra Pradesh' and an IT giant.
The national and international leaders described Andhra Pradesh as a role model as far as investment, reforms and agricultural development is concerned. The State aims to be the No.1 in the country in the shortest possible time in all sectors.
Over the past decade, it has emerged as one of India’s fastest growing states with respect to parameters of GDP and per capita GDP. Andhra Pradesh dominates software and back-office exports from India. With decadal GDP growth of 56.2 per cent and per capita GDP growth of 43.9 per cent, Andhra Pradesh now has the sixth highest per capita GDP amongst all states.

In Andhra Pradesh, CSR is emerging as an essential component in delivering the better business performance and image. Many organizations are actively engaged in supporting skills up gradation, promoting primary education and healthcare.
CII, AP has come up with a publication ‘SAMVRIDDHI’ carrying several examples of CSR Journey of select major organizations and we hope that it shall inspire all of us for greater commitment towards the society.
Skills development projects are running across the length & breadth of the country with 20 projects already being successfully completed. Projects cover both rural & urban areas. Currently the projects are running in the rural areas in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Punjab.
With the advancement of green building movement in India, many companies have evinced keen interest in having a holistic green design and construction framework for upcoming factory buildings. IGBC, in its endeavor to extend green building concepts to all building types has developed the IGBC Green factory rating system. IGBC Green Factories rating system is the first of its kind addressing sustainability in industrial buildings. The programme is fundamentally designed to address national priorities and quality of life for factory workmen.
IGBC Green Factory Rating System is a voluntary and consensus based programme. The rating system has been developed based on the contemporary materials and technologies. This rating system would facilitate the development of green factories. The rating system evaluates certain credit points using a prescriptive approach and other credits on a performance based approach. The rating system is evolved so as to be comprehensive and at the same time user-friendly.
This is an excellent opportunity for projects to participate in the pilot rating programme. The learning from the pilot rating programme would influence in developing a robust rating system. The pilot projects play an important role in evaluating the results achieved by the pilot projects and the criteria established in the rating programme.

CII Awards & Recognitions
The Leadership and Excellence Award in Environment Health & Safety (EHS) Award was instituted in the year 2002. The aim is to recognize, motivate and facilitate corporates to adopt innovative practices in EHS.
The Confederation of Indian Industry (SR) through its Education Sub-Committee, launched the first edition of Innovator 2009 on 12th February 2010 at Hotel Le Royal Meridien, Chennai. The Sub Committee initiated this unique event this year under the Chairmanship of Dr R Mahadevan, Group Technology Director, India Pistons Ltd. Innovator is a competition aimed at identifying and showcasing the innovative ideas of college students from Technical, Business and Social streams in the Southern Region. It is a three stage project centric contest designed to test the technical/business and social concepts, presentation and creative skills of the participants.
Confederation of Indian Industry (Southern Region) has launched the Eighth edition of the "Leadership and Excellence Award in Environment Health & Safety (EHS) for the year 2009" in cooperation with SHRIRAM EPC Limited.
The EHS Award was instituted in the year 2002 and it has been grand success every year and has received tremendous response from the industries in the Southern Region.
QC Circles play a very important role in involving a wide cross section of employees for improving quality within an organization through participation. In an effort to spread the awareness of the need to Total Quality Management among membership in the Southern Region, CII has been conducting the Quality Circle Convention in the southern region for the last 22 years. The Regional Convention, which is an annual feature, is a build-up of the State Conventions that take place throughout the year as part of CII’s continuous thrust towards strengthening the quality movement in India. The convention provides a unique opportunity to motivate Workers to form Quality Circles within the organization and facilitates the exchange of ideas and sharing of experiences on various approaches to problem solving through Quality Circles. Each team participating at the convention would be make presentations of their QC Stories to the jury. The first three winners at the Regional Competitions would participate in the CII National QC Circle Convention.
5S is a five-step technique for creating and maintaining a good housekeeping at workplace, which makes it free of clutter, well-organized and clean. Once fully implemented, the 5S process can increase morale, create positive impressions on customers and increase efficiency and organization. The effect of 5S on continuous improvement can lead to less waste, better quality and faster lead times. All of which make an organization more profitable and competitive in the market place.
Kaizen (Japanese for "improvement" or "change for the better") is a philosophy or set of practices that focus on continuous improvement of processes in manufacturing, engineering, supporting business processes, and management. The Kaizen concept stimulates productivity improvement as an ongoing process in companies. The Kaizen Competition of CII Southern Region is organized every year to recognize and encourage member companies which give importance to continuous improvements through Kaizens. The competition is conducted for operators and supervisors of member companies from manufacturing and service sectors. In order to encourage competitiveness through Kaizens among small scale industries, a special recognition is given for the best small scale organization which participates in the competition. The competition awards member companies who have adopted Kaizens not only at the shop floor but also from the office area, scrap yard, stores etc.
