The Wire & cable industry in India is a significant sector that encompasses the manufacturing and distribution of various types of wires and cables. It plays a crucial role in supporting the infrastructure development and electrical needs of the country.

The market is anticipated to be propelled by dynamics such as the evolution in renewable power generation in India, the development and revamping of Transmission & Distribution infrastructure in India and increasing investments in metro railways. Intensified investments in smart grid projects and up-gradation of power transmission and distribution systems are also estimated to propel the demand for wires & cables globally. Significant investments in smart grid technology have resulted in an increasing need for grid interconnections. Additionally, rising investments in underground cables and the growth of renewable energy are set to escalate the adoption of wires and cables. Wire and cables demand is directly dependent on the growth of the manufacturing industry and infrastructure in the power, telecommunications, residential and commercial sectors.  Thus the government’s initiatives on various fronts like – power, housing, infrastructure and  digitization are sure to generate a lot of business for the wire and cable industry in the foreseeable future.

Wires and cables are deployed across an extensive range of applications which include consumer electronics, utilities, material handling, automotive, and entertainment/leisure amongst others. Growing inclination toward the expansion of prevailing grid networks coupled with lack of efficient electric infrastructure will propel the industry outlook over the forecast timeline.

ABOUT THE INITIATIVE

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has been at the forefront of reforms and is working diligently with varied stakeholders to offer solutions to the critical challenges that are hampering the growth of the Indian Industry. CII WR further envisages to create a dynamic, reliable and conducive platform for the convergence of all the stakeholders to forge the strategies for making Cable and Wire sector more resilient.

In line with this role, CII is organizing the WIRE TECH  2025 in April 2025. The WIRE TECH  2025 will showcase materials, machinery and accessories for the production of wire & cables, optical fibre cables, fastener, springs, wire ropes and other wire products. The venue for the exhibition, Mumbai is in close proximity to a large number of India’s leading wire & cable manufacturers.

 The show will foster inclusive growth by highlighting the opportunities, focussing on quality, spreading awareness about best and sustainable practices, addressing the challenges and formulating contingency responses to the black-swan events.
