The Global Innovation Index (GII) is a first-hand reference for measuring a country’s innovation performance. Now in its 2nd decade, the GII has established itself as a ‘tool for action’ for decision makers, leading to the improvement of innovation metrics, the removal of obstacles to innovation and the shaping of efficient national innovation policy strategies.
The theme of GII 2019 is ‘The Future of Health and Medical Innovation’ and the India chapter of this report is being penned by Dr Devi Shetty. It will shed light on the role of government as well as industry in the field of medical innovation. Global examples are expected to significantly enhance the way healthcare is delivered across countries. Technology will play a big role in this area in years to come and this report will bring to light interesting case studies of use of artificial intelligence, robotics, remote diagnosis, genomics, big data, mobile health, stem cell research, and advances in regenerative medicine, biomarkers, use of nanotechnologies and digital tools allowing for precision (noninvasive) medicine around the world.
International launch events of GII are very high-profile events. In the previous editions, the launch cities have been New York (2018), Geneva (2017 and 2016). This year, for the first time, New Delhi is going to be the chosen city for this global launch.
A one-day conference-cum-exhibition-cum-launch session is proposed to be organized for this. Representatives of all top-ranking nations of GII and major international media organisations are expected to be in New Delhi on this day.
