“Leher - Yi Project 1 Minute” – Eliminating Child Abuse,
Every time we read about a child who has been abused we have an urge to act and over time this intention fizzles away, until the next gory act recurs. WHO in 2002 estimated that 73 million boys and 150 million girls under the age of 18 had experienced various forms of sexual violence.
Every 5th Child in India thought to face critical forms of Child Abuse. 40% of India’s children are susceptible to threats (being homeless, trafficking, crime etc.) .In 95% of cases of child abuse, the perpetrator is known to the child.
Behind these numbers and data is probably a child you know. We have often been silent or numb to the issue of child abuse by conveniently denying it exists or due to ignorance.
A large gap is the lack of communication between the child and parents and also the lack of knowledge among critical stakeholders – teachers, care givers and health care professionals. Those that should be protecting their children are either the perpetrator or ignorant to the fact that their child is being sexually abused.
Young Indians Bengaluru, an integral part of CII comprises of professionals and entrepreneurs who volunteer towards various projects aimed at Nation Building. One of our key projects is Masoom which looks at eliminating child sexual abuse through improved awareness among stakeholders.
We have embarked on an ambitious project to run a yearlong campaign of 1 minute videos to educate and eliminate Child Sexual Abuse, “Leher - Yi Project 1 Minute”.
Goal of Project Leher - 1 Minute Film Fest
To spread the awareness & educate stakeholders about child sexual abuse, ultimately leading to a better future of children and youth in India.
Objective of Project Leher - 1 Minute Film Fest
Produce 52 One Minute videos to create awareness about Child Sexual Abuse (CSA)
Disseminate and make available these videos for any stakeholder to use them for the benefit of a child and to empower a child.
Create a repository of videos to enable collaboration between agencies working on sensitizing against Child Abuse.
Program Plan
Identified key partners and resource persons.
Conducted a Creative Hackathon on June 10th 2017 to get storylines & scripts for 52 videos. We got 72 Scripts on board.
Upload the same to an online portal, and invite online submissions for the same.
Submissions to be judged by a panel of eminent film & theatre personalities, with the top 3 being rewarded in the form of grand prize money as well as a chance to get the movie featured at an international film festival.
The videos to be modified to align to a common template with celebrities introducing the concept to make them aligned to the core framework.
All videos would be made available as a repository for individuals & organisations from across the country to use.
All videos would also be screened through reach out partners like multiplexes as well as large movie production houses.
Intended Impact
The videos will reach at least 1Million direct beneficiaries, including children, youth, parents, relatives, teachers, staff etc. This could be increased manifold with support of strategic partners.
Being a video format and with the intent to leave it as a repository without any royalty – we expect atleast 100 organisations working in the field of Child Sexual Abuse would use this content.
Raise awareness in print and electronic media through the format of the production on the topic of Child Sexual Abuse.
Ensure atleast 1 of the videos produced is nominated for an international film festival of repute.
