Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) with the support of Ministry of Commerce and Industry is organizing a Business Delegation to Kenya & Tanzania from 2 – 6 December 2019.
Senior representatives from the Indian Industry is invited to participate in these delegations as it would be of immense value, not only in strengthening India’s cooperation but also showcasing the potential that the Indian industry has, to partner with these African countries in our common goal towards a developed future. Senior officials from Ministry of Commerce & Industry will be leading the Indian Business delegation.
This delegation will consist of representatives of Indian Industry including manufacturers, EPC Contractors, Consultancy firms from sectors like Agriculture & Food Processing, Infrastructure & Construction, Power & Energy, Healthcare & Pharmaceuticals amongst others. The main objective of this visit is to provide an opportunity for members to meet and interact with potential partners for expanding their business in these countries both in terms of trade and investment. During the visit the CII will facilitate interactions with various stakeholders – Government and Business in the countries and also provide platform to showcase the capabilities of the Indian companies.
Kenya : 2 – 3 December 2019
India is the second largest investor in Kenya. Over 60 major Indian companies have invested in various sectors including manufacturing, real estate, pharmaceuticals, telecom, IT & ITES, banking and agro-based industries. Indian investments have resulted in creation of thousands of direct jobs to Kenyans. Indian pharmaceutical companies have a substantial presence in Kenya.
India-Kenya Bilateral trade in 2018-19 was US$ 2.208 billion. Main Indian exports to Kenya include petroleum products, pharmaceuticals, steel products, machinery, yarn, vehicles and power transmission equipment. Main Kenyan exports to India include soda ash, vegetables, tea, leather and metal scrap.
The visit to Kenya will coincide with the Enterprise India Kenya Show 2019, scheduled from 2nd to 4th December 2019 at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Nairobi, Kenya. Enterprise India Show is a multi sectoral exhibition which would provide a platform for business meetings, international conference and seminar, business networking, technology assessment, strategic partnership, vendor development and is attended by visitors from the local community in Kenya.
Tanzania : 5 - 6 December 2019
India and Tanzania share a vibrant economic, commercial and business ties. India is the largest trading partner of Tanzania comprising 16% of Tanzania’s foreign trade. India is also among the top five investment sources in Tanzania. Major Indian companies and brands present or operating in Tanzania include Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Canara Bank, Tata International Limited, Bharti Airtel, National Mineral Development Corporation, Tanzindia as joint venture of insurance companies (LIC, NIC, United India, etc), Kamal Group of Industries, Larsen & Toubro, Godrej, Afcons, Kalpatru and several automobile companies.
India’s major exports to Tanzania include petroleum products, pharmaceuticals & chemicals, motor vehicles, electrical goods, articles of iron & steel, sugar, machinery, etc. Tanzania’s major exports to India include gold dore, cashew nuts, pulses, timber, spices (mainly cloves), ores and metal scrap, gemstones, etc.
The visit is aimed to provide opportunity for the members to explore new business opportunities in the country and interact with local businesses and Government.
The delegation is scheduled to visit Kenya from 2 – 3 December 2019; then Tanzania from 5 -6 December 2019.
