Tripura
Thanks to its strategic geography, Tripura is seen as the Gateway to South East Asian economies. Bounded by Bangladesh on its south, west and north, Assam and Mizoram, Tripura is endowed with natural resources such as rubber and natural gas, and also possesses vast potential for forest-based industries. Tripura’s forest resources include bamboo, medicinal herbs and wood, which are being utilised for setting up of forest-based industries. Surplus power is a big plus for businesses, especially food processing. With Bangladesh being there on three sides of Tripura, export promotion and cross-border trade is an important area. Export promotion, particularly in Bangladesh, is another area of focus. Natural gas, rubber and tea, tourism, etc, are potential sectors for development in the state. Since Tripura is rich in natural gas reserves and surplus in power, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has come out with the North East Hydrocarbon Vision 2030 to fuel development of the entire region’s hydrocarbon potential. The state is keen to to build stronger infrastructure, bio-tech parks, food parks, rubber park, IT parks. The recent launch of trans-shipment operations in Chittagong in Bangaldesh aims to boost trade and facilitate seamless movement of goods. India was for long seeking transit and transshipment facility to carry goods to Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura, from West Bengal through a shortened route via Bangladesh.
The GSDP at current prices for 2014-15 stood at Rs 29667 crores with a growth rate of 15.92 per cent over previous year
