Madhya Pradesh
Nicknamed the "Heart of India" due to its central geographical location, Madhya Pradesh is the second-largest state in the country with an area of 3.1 lakh sq kms. It is surrounded by Uttar Pradesh in the north, Chhattisgarh in the east, Maharashtra in the south and Gujarat and Rajasthan in the west. The state has a population of 7.3 crore. The state has a rich cultural heritage and is blessed with a large plateau, spectacular mountain ranges, meandering rivers and miles and miles of dense forests, which is home to a variety of flora and fauna and is home to innumerable monuments.
Having a rich biodiversity, the state is abundant in natural resources like fuels, minerals and agricultural produce. A large part of India’s mineral production is contributed by Madhya Pradesh. The state has significant reserves of manganese, bauxite, iron ore and coal and has the distinction of being the only diamond-producing state in India. The 11 agro-climatic conditions and a variety of soils available in the state support the cultivation of a wide range of crops. Ideal soil and climatic conditions have made it a primary producer of coarse cereals, oilseeds and soybean in India. Having around 33% of its region under forests, Madhya Pradesh has an enormous potential for drug, wood and agro-based commercial enterprises.
Due to its central location, Madhya Pradesh offers easy connectivity to several parts of India. Many FMCG companies have moved their warehouses to the state owing to logistical advantages. The state is also well connected to major Indian ports including Kandla and JNPT.
Madhya Pradesh is among the fastest growing states in India. Its Gross State Domestic Product stood at Rs 9.18 trillion in 2020-21. The state ranked fourth among Indian states in the 4th edition of Ease of Doing Business Rankings released by Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce, GOI based on the State Business Reform Action Plan (BRAP) 2019.
