Delhi is the administrative capital of India, seat of power and hub of trade and commerce. It is one of the fastest growing states in the country. At current prices, the advance estimate of Gross State Domestic Product of Delhi is INR 7.98 trillion in 2020-21. The state’s GSDP at a CAGR of 9.8% between 2011-12 and 2020-21. The per capita income of Delhi FY 2020-21 stood at INR 3,91,060 at current prices. Delhi’s per capita income is about 2.68 times higher than the national per capita income. The contraction in GSDP of Delhi (at current prices) by 4.1 per cent and by 5.7 per cent (at constant prices) during the year 2020-21 is the impact of the pandemic. The contribution of the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors were 3.4 %, 13.8 % and 82.8 % to the total GSVA in the year 2020-21 respectively.
The Government of Delhi is committed towards creating a progressive business environment. The Industrial Policy 2010-21 of Government of NCT of Delhi aims to provide a conducive environment for knowledge-based and hi-tech IT/ ITeS industries in Delhi through a host of measures like creation and maintenance of industrial infrastructure, simplification of procedures and creation of appropriate institutions for facilitating industry. Delhi has a well– developed infrastructure with airports, roads, highways and metros connecting Delhi to the National Capital Region as well as other key cities of
India and abroad. According to the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), cumulative FDI inflow in Delhi amounted to USD 110.61 billion between April 2000-June 2022. In 2022 (Until June 2022), seven IEMs with proposed investments worth INR 14,326 crore (USD 1,738.20 million) were filed in Delhi.
Delhi is well-known as an education, healthcare, trading and tourism hub, some of the other leading sectors in the state include Retail, Hospitality, Banking & Financial Services etc. Delhi has one of largest share of skilled workforce, making it suitable for knowledge-based economic activities such as IT/ITeS, designing, R&D and financial services. With the availability of skilled manpower, there are numerous investment opportunities in the services sector. Owing to its location, connectivity and rich cultural history, Delhi has always been a prime tourist attraction of the country.
