Country’s first planned city, Chandigarh, the City Beautiful, is a Union Territory (UT) and also joint capital of Punjab and Haryana. The GSDP (2011-12 prices) of Chandigarh grew at a CAGR of 7.5% during FY18-19 to Rs 311 billion from Rs 188 billion in FY11-12. The CAGR growth rates of primary, secondary and tertiary sector were 0.4%, 5.5% and 7.1% respectively. UT is service sector based economy, which is reflected from the share of the tertiary sector to UT’s GVA (FY19) at 84.1%. The per capita income of Chandigarh is second highest in the country. During FY19 (current prices) it was Rs 359,027. With an excellent base of communication network, technical institutes and connectivity with other the states, Chandigarh is rapidly emerging as a regional hub of service industry, education, healthcare, information technology, etc. Rajiv Gandhi Chandigarh Technology Park (RGCTP), a SEZ has attracted many companies operating in IT & ITeS sector. The city is being developed as Smart City, thus offering business opportunities across various sectors. The Administration is making efforts to make it a model solar city of the country. Chandigarh has been ranked first in the country in terms of installation of solar power. Chandigarh serves as a gateway to the state of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. CII has been working closely with Chandigarh Administration for the overall and inclusive development of the UT. This year, CII is focusing on Entrepreneurship Development & Start-ups, Skill Development/ Industry Institute Interface, Smart City, Enhancing competitiveness of MSMEs, UT as a hub of tourism, retail, healthcare and education in North India etc. As part of its policy advocacy agenda, CII has been representing the industry viewpoint on emerging trends, shaping new policies.
