The CII Development Initiatives has enlisted wide scale industry support to unlock the growth potential of rural India. In creating tangible rural assets for sustainable development, CII has focused attention on improving rural income and employment levels, rural infrastructure development, education and healthcare facilities, and promotion of rural businesses. Rural Business Hubs: CII partners the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India, in promoting Rural Business Hubs (RBHs) across the country. Within this framework of partnership, initiatives have been taken to link up Indian corporates with different Panchyati Raj Institutions (PRIs) to identify and develop rural business clusters. While this would help the rural businesses to move up the economic value chain, the corporate would discover new markets and sourcing options. Nearly 200 MOUs have already been signed to promote RBHs. Healthy & Educated Villages: CII has sought Indian industry’s active engagement for improving rural infrastructure for safe drinking water, sewage and garbage disposal, schools, sanitation, roads, tele-medicine, etc. Major corporates like DSCL, Hero Honda, Bharti Foundation, Sona Group, Luxor, HCL, GHPL, Coca Cola Foundation, and others have come forth to support these initiatives. Seven villages in the states of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab will receive special attention under this initiative. E-Portal: Knowledge is the true liberator of a developing society. CII is developing an E-Portal that will enable rural businesses to access real time market information for better price realization for their products. The portal will functions like a knowledge bank on rural products and services, build buyer-seller interaction, and facilitate multifold B2B linkages.
