Telangana
Telangana is the 29th State of India, formed on the 2nd of June 2014. The State has an area of about 1,15,000 sq km and has a population of over 3.5 crore. Telangana is surrounded by Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh in the North, Karnataka in the West and Andhra Pradesh in the South and East directions. The capital of Telangana is Hyderabad and major cities of the State include: Warangal, Nizamabad, and Karimnagar. The State has 31 districts: Adilabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Hyderabad, Jagtial, Jangaon, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Jogulamba Gadwal, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Khammam, Kumarambheem Asifabad, Mahabubabad, Mahabubnagar, Mancherial, Medak, Medchal–Malkajgiri, Nagarkurnool, Nalgonda, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, Rajanna Sircilla, Ranga Reddy, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Suryapet, Vikarabad, Wanaparthy, Warangal Rural, Warangal Urban and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri.
Two important rivers of India, the Godavari and Krishna, flow through the state, providing irrigation.
Telangana's state domestic product is estimated to be Rs. 8.43 lakh crores (US $ 130 billion) for the year 2018-19. Accounting for about 65% of the GSDP, services industry is the major sector of Telangana, followed by industry (16%), and agriculture (18%). Its per capita income is Rs.1,58,360/- for 2016-17. Telangana is home to several major manufacturing industries such as bulk drugs, pharmaceuticals, agro-processing, cement & mineral-based industries, high precision engineering, textiles, automobiles and auto components industry, spices, horticulture, poultry farming, biotechnology, defence equipment, etc.
The State has over 1 lakh small, medium and large scale industries providing employment to 17.5 lakh people in the organised sector. Telangana’s industrial policy intends to provide a friendly business regulatory environment. In order to have an effective industrial clearance mechanism, the State government has strengthened Telangana State Industrial Project Approval and Self-certification System (TS-iPASS) by way of legislation. A Right to Single Window Clearance, on the lines of the Right to Information, has been introduced for the speedy approval of industrial projects. The government supports skill development programmes targeted at industrial sector jobs under the ambit of the Telangana State’s Skill Development Mission (TASK) and the Telangana State Accelerated SSI Skills Training (T-ASSIST) program. Telangana offers various incentives under Telangana State Industrial Development and Entrepreneur Advancement incentive scheme. The incentives include: stamp duty reimbursement; land cost rebate; land conversion cost, power cost reimbursement, investment subsidy, VAT reimbursement, interest subsidy, seed capital for first generation entrepreneurs, training and skill development, and quality/patent support.
In addition to the policy measures, incentives and initiatives provided by the state, Telangana has advantages that make the state as potential manufacturing hub in India.
