Arunachal Pradesh is a thinly populated hilly tract lying on the north-east part of India comprising roughly 83,573 square kilometers.
The GSDP at current prices for 2015-16 stood at Rs 19473 crores with a growth rate of 18.81 per cent over previous year.
The state is rich in flora, fauna, power and mineral potential. It is bounded by independent countries on the three sides and by Assam and Nagaland in the south. The long international border comprises of Bhutan on its west, the Tibet region of China on its northern and north east border and Myanmar on the eastern border. The economy in this hill state is facing with severe problems due to lack of industriliasition and limited scope in other areas for any gainful activities. The sectors of focus include industries based on agricultural, horticultural and plantation produces, non-timber forest produces, bamboo, cane (rattan), medicinal plants / herbs, aromatic grass, tea, coffee etc. Emphasis is also being given to textiles (handlooms and power looms), handicrafts and sericulture; mineral-based industries such as ferro-alloys and cement plants; electronics, pharmaceuticals, power, food processing, engineering and allied industries, tourism and hospitality, art and craft, etc. The State Government has partially implemented computerization of commercial tax department.
