Training on Internal Auditing and ISO certification by CII in Musuru
The confederation of Indian industry (CII) organized a three day workshop and internal auditor training for the city based middle management heads of various Industries from across Mysuru at Hotel Quorum from Saturday.
The event was organized with a view to enhance the benefits of Quality Management Systems in organizations and aid the participants understand the need and importance for internal auditing and the various ways to overcome the ups and downs associated with it with the right knowledge of ISO 9001:2008 and TS 16949 2009.
Addressing the gathering, Mr U K Shenoy, Convenor, Manufacturing Panel, CII Mysuru & VP-Works, JK Tyres spoke about need for ISO certification and auditing and said "these certifications are very crucial for any firm to exist and survive. During the 1980s, anyone who exported goods had to compulsorily have this certification and doing so also benefited them to certify their quality standards. This is a must for firms even to this day and it is the automobile industries that need it the most. It is more explicit to them than any of their other firms."
Elaborating on the scenario during the 80s and 90s, he said initially business was all about the seller’s market but the competition increased by the 90s as people started giving more importance to quality as it was only quality helped them sustain if not for which the firms faced major hurdles. Recalling that during 1990 to 98 many companies were rolled back because their product quality was bad, he said only a few that were smart managed to survive. At this point it is important for us to think of Japan which was leading in this aspect not just back then but is known for its products and qualities even today, he added and said that the country has been always appreciated its works and we have a lot to learn from them. We should also be glad that we have latest options such as six sigma for improvised quality and maintenance of customer needs and we need thus ensure good quality products are manufactured because people only ask for products of standard quality, he explained and said that those who manufacture quality products need not even market their goods and the will get popular and stand for their works just by word of mouth as brand value matters the most these days..
Speaking of commitment, he said that auditing is not just the responsibility of the auditors but is also that of every employee including the CEO of an organzation. You being a part of an organization should have more responsibility towards your organization with utmost knowledge. Every employee can make a difference to their firm by being attentive," he advised.
Also, frequency of internal auditing should increase said Mr Shenoy, and felt that it has to be defined very initially based on the status of the system. Based on the desripencies it should be company specific and all areas should be taken care of and there is no defined period for calculation and auditing should remain consistent. Nothing should be fixed until you attain perfection," he said and added "If the quality of system remains same without any improvement required, you have to fine tune further based on your needs.
Mr Veerendra Singh, Senior Counsellor CII Institute of Quality who was also present called upon the participants to work towards cultural improvement and commitments and to an organization selflessly, with the country's betterment in mind.
About 30 representatives are participating in the training session.
