Session on Project Management
In a rapidly changing marketplace, the construction industry—including townships, housing, and built-up infrastructure—has been making rapid strides, and has continued to remain one of the key contributors to the Indian economy. During April 2000–August 2013, the sector garnered total FDI worth US$ 22,671.95 million. At present, business houses and project managers are striving to bring in more transparency for improving existing processes. The focus is on project delivery systems with better control mechanisms, project governance, risk management, etc. Project management teams are expected to stay ahead of the curve to mitigate any technology and skill gaps that are prevalent in the construction industry. This is a common trend in the sector, and cuts across the segments of tenant improvement work (office interior), residential development, industrial, and retail establishment, etc. The market is also witnessing rapid expansion with developers focusing on the development of new real estate in the industrial/warehousing, healthcare, entertainment and education segments. All these different areas require specialized and innovative project management skills. Against this backdrop, CII is organizing a session on the aspect of “Successful Project Delivery through Effective Project Management”. The workshop seeks to analyze the challenges involved in this process, as well as to discuss and propose solutions to bridge the gap between expectations and ground reality. Speaker: Mr Ondiappan Arivazhagan, B.E(Honors),PMI-RMP,PMI- SP,PMP,MBB, Chief Executive Officer, International Institute of Project Management, Chennai.
