Demand Forecasting for Skilled Manpower in existing and emerging sectors of industry

Realizing the need for proper skill development of youth in Chhattisgarh, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in association with Chhattisgarh State Skill Development Mission (CSSDM) organized “Demand Forecasting for Skilled Manpower in existing and emerging sectors of industry” on 20 February 2013. Smt Nidhi Chhiber, Secretary, Technical Education and Manpower Planning, Science Technology was the graced the Inaugural session as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries present were Mr Ramesh Agrawal, Chairman, CII Chhattisgarh; Mr Manish Gupta, Vice Chairman, CII Chhatisgarh; and Mr Santosh K Misra, Director, Technical Education and CEO, CSSDM; and Mr Joydeep Mukherjee, State Head CII Chhattisgarh and CII Secretariat. Today’s workshop focused on industry needs and its demand for labours in forthcoming years. Selected sectoral presentations were made by representatives from industries, forecasting labour demands in particular sectors. During the Inaugural Address Mr Ramesh Agrawal said that “Industry has to work closely with the Central and State Governments for strengthening the educational system (conventional and vocational) and also proactively participate in skill development initiatives. We recognize the importance of encouraging and mentoring entrepreneurial activity and also creating innovative models of business. All these in turn would create greater opportunities for livelihood”. Mr Santosh K Misra mentioned that all the enterprises be it large or small should come forward and join this movement of Skilling 1.25 Crores by 2022. He said that the target of skilling 1.25 crores can be achieved by a structured process in which the identification of gaps in providing training are to be identified and proper counseling is required to gauge the interest area of the youth. Smt Nidhi Chibber added that in following a structured process the first step was taken to review the works that have been done in last month. She mentioned that the backward and forward linkages are very crucial in this structured process. Referring to the backward and forward linkages she emphasized on not only skilling the youth but also to provide them with opportunities of employment. She further added that next year all the districts will have its own skill development units and plan. Sectoral presentations were done by Mr Jayesh Pithalia, President, RADA; Mr Harish Kedia, President, Chhattisgarh Laghu & Sahayak Udyog Sangh; Mr Vijay Nathani, Past Chairman, CREDAI; Mr V K Aggarwal, Head-Training & Development, Pratibha Sysntex; Mr Rajeev K Sharma, Head Skill Development Centre, JBM Group; Mr Vivek Ranjan Gupta, President, Urla Industrial Association; Mr A Ayyaz, Deputy Director- Handlooms, Government of Chhattisgarh; Mr Harinarayana Kompella, GM-HRD, NMDC; Mr Biswajit Chattaraj, Director, NIBF. Mr Manish Gupta briefed about the proceedings of the day about the Technical Session I that discussed on the different sectors of Skill Development. And Technical Session II which was An Open Session where in discussion on roadmap of Skill Development initiatives for the upcoming financial year was done.
