Need to forge ties between the Public and Private Sector to strengthen skills of healthcare workforce & achieve national goal of Health for All

Many countries depend on the Indian Healthcare Supply Chain (that mainly include skilled doctors and paramedics) to meet the medical needs of their own population. However, in India, there is a significant deficit in medical manpower”. To address this issue both in the long and short term the Minister of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship, Mr Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized the need for of a wider dialogue across the relevant Ministries to drive this skill sector forward at the concluding day of the 15thCII Health Summit 2018 on 30th Nov at New Delhi.

Mr Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog, also addressed at the Session on Health & Economy reiterating challenges that this sector faces – taking the lead in developing Healthcare systems that are low cost, Strengthening Primary Healthcare Centres and linking these digitally, offering access to our traditional medicines along with modern allopathy. This is also the sector with the highest potential to create a million jobs every year. Therefore India needs to explore ways to unleash the Human Resource opportunity offered by this sector

Dr Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog– asked the private sector to come forward and support the 5 point agenda of combatting concerns plaguing the healthcare Sector – Perception, portion, prevention, primary healthcare structures and Low cost products. Focusing on strengthening PHCs, he said that around 574 out of 1.5 lakh primary health and wellness centers have been establishedunder Ayushmaan Bharat. “There is a dire need for 2nd line healthcare workers who will not only be manning these facilities but will also play an important role in linking the PHCs in remote rural areas to secondary and tertiary healthcare facilitiesin urban areas by using technology.”

Ms Suneeta Reddy, Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited and also the Chairperson of 15th CII Health Summit ensured that the private healthcare providers will support the initiative of the government for the betterment and welfare of the society. Ms Reddy was optimistic that issues brought up on the platform of the CII health summit are addressed in the coming months, the outcomes of which become food for thought in the future discussions.
