Indian Cinema on a Global Journey at Cannes

The opening evening of Producers Network & Industry Workshop at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival and 60th anniversary of Cannes Film Market brought attention on India at Cannes among 500 global film producers and filmmakers.

The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India in association with Confederation of Indian Industry has partnered with Cannes Film Market (Marche Du Film) for the opening evening of the Producers Network on May 15.

The opening evening of the Producers Network brought together producers, sales agents, festival representatives and films funds in one platform opening up new avenues, more collaborations and interest in co-productions among participating delegates.

Mr Amit Khare, Secretary Information & Broadcasting highlighted the liberal policy environment in India, establishment of FFO as a single window clearance for film shooting across India and the ease of doing business which makes India a very attractive destination for film business.

Mr Jerome Paillard, Executive Director, Cannes Film Market maintained that Indian participation has been growing over the years at Cannes and hopeful for active co-production collaboration with France.

Mr Prasoon Joshi, Writer, Poet and Chairman, Central Board of Film said Cannes has been a great platform for Indian creative fraternity to collaborate with international counterpart.

To give an impetus to animation, gaming and VFX industry, Mr Amit Khare said the government has set up Centre of Excellence that would produce technical professionals to cater to the need of high end human resources and IPR.

Invitation was extended to international producers, directors and film fraternities to join for the International Film Festival of India, Goa this November. IFFI will be celebrating 50 years in 2019.

Ease of Shooting in India and facilitation by Film Facilitation Office (FFO) was emphasized among global producers and delegates were receptive of the changes on ground in enabling ease of film shooting and obtaining permission in India.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is participating for the 18 consecutive year at the Cannes Film Festival and Market with an objective to promote the Indian film Industry, to promote India as an ‘all-in-one’ destination, to promote independent film makers, production houses and start-ups in Media and Entertainment, promote Indian shooting locales, facilitate collaboration between the Indian and the Global Film producing industry, set up a buying selling platform, etc.
