Industry Stands by Nobel Peace Laureate Mr Kailash Satyarthi’s Resolve to Save & Restore Childhoods Lost to Slavery & Exploitation
Nov 06, 2019

Confederation of Indian Industry and CII Foundation, in association with Kailash Satyarthi Children’s foundation, organized the screening of Award-Winning Documentary, "The Price of Free” which is a slice from the life and work of Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi. The award winning documentary has been produced by Oscar Awardee Davis Guggenheim. This film has a very strong call to action for governments, civil society, corporates, faith organizations, youth and people at large to collectively work towards ensuring free, safe and educated childhoods. The film was showcased on 5th  November 2019 at Godavari Auditorium, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.

The screening was organized to support the unrelenting quest for restoring childhoods lost to slavery and exploitation.

As a country, we are celebrating the fact that we are the fastest growing major economy, the sixth largest economy in the world and soon to realise our vison of emerging as a US$10 trillion economy. We talk about our demographic advantage - our country is home to the world’s highest number of young people – by 2027 we will become the largest working force.

This is an opportunity and a power. Never again is there likely to be such potential for economic and social progress.

At the same time, it can turn into a challenge, if proactive steps are not taken, especially in uplifting those children who are marginalized and voiceless part of the society. It is an uphill task which needs to be taken up on mission mode.

“Safeguarding People, Planet, Prosperity and Peace is not possible without creating mutual trust and cooperation between State, Corporate and Civil society. Only a few decades ago State was solely responsible for development and human rights, now the role and responsibility of businesses and corporates have grown or increased manifold. Therefore, I urge them to demonstrate their leadership in ensuring free, safe and educated childhood for everyone as their social and moral responsibility”, said Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi.

Ms Rumjhum Chatterjee, Past Chairperson CII Northern Region and Co-Chair, CII National Committee on CSR and; Group Managing Director and Head of Human Capital Development, Feedback Group congratulated Mr. Kailash Satyarthi on the film and said, “It was deeply moving and at the same time a lesson for all of us on how critical it is to invest, act and partner the movement.”

CII along with its Young Indians and Indian Women Networks’ members pledged to be part of Mr. Satyarthi’s movement and standing firm in ensuring to do their best towards restoring childhoods lost to slavery and exploitation.

The screening was attended by well over 300 delegates.
