With Adventure Tourism growing rapidly, CII organized a Round Table on ‘Adventure Tourism in India’ on 24 April in New Delhi, to highlight the enormous potential of this genre of tourism to make India a 365 days tourist destination.
Mr. Akshay Kumar, President, Adventure Tour Operators Association of India, and CEO, Mercury Himalayan Explorations Ltd, noted that the focus has now shifted from hard-core to soft-core / multi-activity based adventure tourism. Since 70% of the Himalayan range is in India, and the Incredible India Himalayan campaign is in place, industry should strategize to encourage adventure tourism activities during the off-season and cater to tourists all-round the year, he suggested, emphasizing the need to focus on safety and quality issues. He pointed out that revenue from domestic tourists is greater than that from overseas visitors.
