The state Uttarakhand was formed on 9th November 2000 as the 27th State of India, when it was carved out of northern Uttar Pradesh. Located at the foothills of the Himalayan mountain ranges, having international boundaries with China (Tibet) in the north and Nepal in the east. On its north-west lies Himachal Pradesh, while on the south is Uttar Pradesh. The state is divided into two administrative divisions, Kumaon and Garhwal, which are further sub divided in 13 districts. Uttarakhand is rich in natural resources especially water and forests with many glaciers, rivers, dense forests and snow-clad mountain peaks. Dehradun is the Capital of Uttarakhand. It is one of the most beautiful resorts in the sub mountain tracts of India, known for its scenic surroundings. The town lies in the Doon Valley, on the watershed of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers.
With levels of literacy higher than the national average, the State has abundant availability of quality human resources. Within a short span of its existence, Uttarakhand has emerged as a significant destination for investments in manufacturing industry, tourism and infrastructure. Emphasis is on stimulating all three sectors of its economy (agriculture, industry and services), to their fullest potential in tandem with the geographic profile of the state. Keeping in view need for the investment of investable surplus, the Government has taken a number of major initiatives to upgrade the infrastructure & G2B Services delivery in Uttarakhand to boost economic growth in the state. Uttarakhand has nearly 272 large, 49000 MSME Enterprises with an investment of over Rs. 45000 Crores providing direct employment to more than 350000 persons. There are 07 Industrial Estates in different areas totalling around 8000 acres and comprising of 2000 Industrial units.
Major Corporates like Hero MotoCorp, TATA Motors, M&M, Hindustan Unilever, ITC, C&S Electric Co, Godrej, VIP Industries, Kirby Building Systems India Ltd, Britannia, Dabur, Bajaj, Ashoka Leyland, Akums Drugs etc. and many IT & ITES companies are functioning in the State.
An Industrial Guidance Bureau is functioning to ensure timely, simplified and single point contact system for issue of clearances for setting up of Industrial projects in the state. Now the system is working with an online system mechanism integrating various departments under one umbrella of application software. All the concerned departments are providing their services to the business units online. The online Single Window Clearance System comprises of online submission of application for industrial clearances inclusive of tracking the status of the application and getting their clearances from various departments at their doorstep by button clicks.
The State Uttarakhand is expected to attract maximum investment flow due to positive action taken by Government such as “Ease of Doing Business” with time line for issue of NOCs, licenses, availability of suitable industrial land for setting up industries and highly qualified technical man power from many education Institution in the area of Medical, Engineering, Arts, Science, Polytechnic Colleges and ITIs and Training institutions. CII has been focusing on enhancing the competitiveness of existing industry and leveraging the competitive advantage offered by the state to promote economic activity. As part of its policy advocacy agenda, CII is representing the industry viewpoint on emerging trends, shaping new policies from time to time. In the state, CII offers services like networking, industrial and business missions, seminars, training, conferences, trade fairs, exhibitions, buyer seller forums etc.
