Multi-national Corporations (MNCs) have been contributing immensely to the growth and development of the Indian economy since the country unleashed major liberalization reforms in the early 1990s. Their rapid emergence has helped in bridging the gaps in domestic investment, inflow of superior technology, skill development, employment generation, tax contributions, among others. They have also contributed to the flagship initiatives of the government of India, including ‘Make in India’, ‘Startup India’, ‘Smart Cities’ and several CSR activities.
As the Indian economy strives towards reaching towards higher GDP growth targets, while creating mass employment and social welfare, the role of foreign companies now assumes even greater importance. For MNCs to be able to deliver their full potential in meeting the growth and development objectives of the country, it would be critical that we recognize their contribution to the country and provide them with a conducive regulatory and business environment.
CII, under the aegis of its National Committee on MNCs, has been working pro-actively in promoting a healthy business environment for the MNCs in India and highlighting the contribution made by MNCs in the country’s economic and social spheres. Through meetings, reports, representations and conferences, CII has been at the forefront in taking up the MNCs’ policy and regulatory issues with the relevant departments of the government, at both Central as well as state levels. CII National Committee on MNCs for 2023-24 is being chaired by Mr Sunil Mathur, Managing Director and CEO, Siemens Ltd India, and has representation of several prominent MNCs from a range of sectors and countries.
