CII Best Practices Award 2011
Recipients of the first CII Environmental Best Practices Award 2011 seen with Mr Shakti Sagar, Chairman, CII-Andhra Pradesh and Mr L S Ganapati, Chairman, CII Environmental Best Practices Award 2011 on 29 January 2011 at CII-Godrej GBC.
Today Mr Shakti Sagar, Chairman, CII – Andhra Pradesh presented 17 projects as “Most Innovative Environmental Project” and 14 projects as “Innovative Environmental Project” and 3 projects as “Most Useful Environmental Project" at the first CII Environmental Best Practices Award 2011 organised at CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre.
Mr L S Ganapati, Chairman, CII Environmental Best Practices Award 2011, while presenting the “Summary of Findings” informed that questionnaires were invited from companies who have achieved significant environmental benefits through implementation of projects in the areas of resource conservation, waste reduction, recycling & pollution control measures, during the last 3 years.
Filled-in questionnaires were received from 150 companies and based on the information shared by companies, 30 companies were short listed. Consequently the short listed companies made their presentations before a panel of eminent judges on 28 & 29 January 2011.
Adding further, Mr L S Ganapati said the 30 short listed companies have achieved an annual recurring saving of Rs. 177 Crores in the past 5 years. These companies achieved the following environmental benefits:
•Amount of waste diverted from landfill 1,70,000 MT/annum
•Amount of raw material saved 1,50,000 MT/ annum
•GHG Reduction 66.7 million MT of CO2/ annum
•Total water saving 62 million m3 / annum
Participation was from all the four regions of the country and was a good mix of various sectors which included – automobile, cement, chemical, engineering, fertilizer, glass, iron & steel, oil & gas, pulp & paper, petrochemical, paint, pharma, refinery, sugar ,telecom, tobacco etc.
