Statement of Mr Chandrajit Banerjee,  Director General, CII on Prime Minister’s Address to the Nation on Independence Day 2024

Sharing his views on the Prime Minister’s Independence Day address to the nation on its 78th Independence Day, Mr Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), said that the inspiring speech of Prime Minister delineated wide-ranging visionary goals intended to support India’s journey into the ‘Amrit Kaal’ as it marches towards the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047 and position it as a global leader across various sectors.

We believe that the progressive ideas presented by the Prime Minister on several important topics such as Women Safety, creating new employment opportunities along with focus on skill development, ease of living mission, Made in India Chip-Semiconductor Production among others, are sine qua non for giving impetus to the nation’s journey of becoming a developed country by 2047. The vision outlined by the Prime Minister in his speech to transform India into a global manufacturing hub will require action on further improving ease of doing business and reducing cost of doing business in the country while adhering to the stated sustainability objectives.

The clarion call in the Prime Minister’s address to the State governments to actively partake in India’s growth journey by making investment attractive polices and undertaking reforms in other critical areas is something which CII has been actively advocating for long. Industry strongly feels that the extra firepower to support India’s ascent will indeed come from building consensus with the states for undertaking next-gen reforms especially in factors of production such as land, labour, etc., which are in the domain of states.

CII believes that all stakeholders should join hands to leverage upon India’s ‘golden era’ which is headlined by its excellent macro fundamentals. Industry, on its part, will remain at the forefront to drive action in all relevant areas to buttress India’s admirable acceleration in growth.
