Imp to prepare for emerging challenges and work out policies to make it easier for RE ecosystem to develop: Secy MNRE
Mr Bhupinder S Bhalla, Secretary, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, has said India is poised to become a global leader in energy transition. Speaking at the Fourth International Conference & Exhibition on Clean Energy, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry and the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy today, Mr Bhalla said 48 gigawatts of new manufacturing capacity will be supported under the production linked incentive scheme.
Mr Bhalla said India aims to position itself as a leading global supplier of renewable energy. “India has attracted about $78 billion in investment, including over $10 billion in foreign direct investment, reflecting the global confidence in our vision and capacities with abundant renewable energy resources, expertise in developing projects,” said Mr Bhalla said at the two-day conference that is themed on Global Champions for Advancing Clean Energy Innovation and Manufacturing.
The country has installed more than 172 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity over the last nine years. Further, by the year 2026, the nation aims to have about 100-gigawatt solar PV module manufacturing capacity. He indicated that India should become a key player in the domestic as well as global supply chain.
Mr Bhalla acknowledged that it is necessary to prepare for emerging challenges and working out policies to make it easier for the renewable energy ecosystem to further develop.
He also highlighted that India has attracted about $78 billion in investment, including over $10 billion in FDI, reflecting the global confidence in India’s vision and capacities.
HE Kenneth Felix Haczynski da Nóbrega, Ambassador, Embassy of Federative Republic of Brazil, appreciated the efforts of CII for organising Fourth International Conference & Exhibition on Clean Energy.
The top priorities for the Brazil during it's presidency of the G20 will be to bring back to the center stage of international discussions- the concept of three dimensions- economic growth, social and environmental.
Mr Kenneth said the Global Biofuels Alliance was a path breaking endeavour. He mentioned that in many global south countries with tropical bioclimate, bioenergy can be a cheaper solution. “Biofuel technology is constantly evolving, and Brazil is already exporting second generation ethanol to number of countries. He pointed that Brazil aims at decarbonisation of its energy matrix,” he added.
He further highlighted that India has set its sight on becoming energy independent by 2047 and achieving Net Zero by 2070. To achieve this target, increasing renewable energy use across all economic spheres is central to India’s Energy Transition. In line with these objectives the MNRE has implemented several innovative and impactful steps to modernize the energy ecosystem like-National Green Hydrogen Mission, Green Energy Corridor Scheme, PM-KUSUM scheme, PLI Scheme etc.
