This report examines the drivers of India’s jobs creation and outlines potential scenarios that can plausibly guide our actions, both in terms of policy and in terms of business strategy for the next ten to fifteen years. It is the outcome of a lengthy and wide-ranging consultation process that brought together over 170 experts from all walks of life, in a structured format. It brings new insights and ideas to the fore, while emphasizing upon the need to place job creation at the heart of policy making. It also captures the current trends in employment and identifies several pillars for policy action, including legal and regulatory issues, sectoral issues, human development and so on.
Divided into two distinct volumes, Volume 1 of this report provides an overview of the jobs ecosystems and the drivers of job creation. It also gives insights into the sectoral landscape with high job potential, presents the scenarios, estimates their impact on jobs and growth and the policy agenda that emerges from the analysis of the system and scenarios. Volume 2 of the Report delves deeper into individual system drivers and describes three sectors with high jobs potential and illustrates impacts of the aforementioned drivers.
The aim of this report is to lead the reader to a deeper understanding of the evolving nature of jobs in a transformational global and domestic ecosystem and thus help us in sharpening our strategies for jobs creation.
