CII organized a conference on “Strengthening the Agri Value Chain in India: Enhancing the Role of Private Sector” on 9 October 2013 at New Delhi. The conference aimed to find solutions to strengthen the post harvest value chain for the long term sustainable growth of the Agri sector.
Some of the key recommendations / takeaways included:

Agriculture of tomorrow would need strong focus on Competitiveness, Inclusiveness, Scalability and Sustainability (CISS)

Policy makers should focus on making the front end strong for the value chain, as the back end would automatically get strengthened

Obsolete mandi network needs to be modernized.

Focus should be on the importance of financing of agri stocks in increasing the farmers’ price realization.

The Indian signature should be ensured by including the Kirana stores and hawkers in an innovative manner along with the big box retailers so that the fusion is acceptable and successful in strengthening the value chain. .
