Post-harvest activities are an integral part of the food production system. Improvements in production capacity need to be coordinated with storage, transportation, aggregation and market information efforts in order to be successful. The ultimate goal of the system is to deliver high quality, safe food to consumers.
The publication details the Indian food scenario, best practices for post-harvest handling and management along the food supply chain, focusing on a broad spectrum of operations and stakeholders in traditional and modern marketing systems.
The background paper was prepared by CII in association with it's knowledge partner Gyan Research & Analytics and was released at the Conference on “Strengthening Post Harvest Infrastructure” organised by CII on 6 September, 2013 in Agra.
