CII released a report on “Importance of Food Processing Sector in India” against the backdrop of the Food Conclave 2015 organised by CII in partnership with the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Government of India on 12 May, 2015 at New Delhi.
The report envisages the role for food processing in employment generation, contribution to the overall GDP and controlling inflation, promoting value added exports, promoting the ‘Make in India’ opportunity and enhancing nutritional security. It highlights the need for stepping up allocation to the food processing sector given that it is labor intensive and ahead of several other sectors in value of output. In addition, the document details some of the interventions required from industry, academia and government to make India the food factory of the world.
