Dairy products account for 70 percent of the output of the livestock sector and provides employment to around 75 million women and 15 million men. 49% of milk in the country comes from buffaloes and most of the buffalo population is in north India. To enhance the income of farmers and increase the productivity of herds we need to look at genuine efforts in research regarding upgradation of per animal productivity of buffaloes.
This report, prepared by CII and IMARC lays emphasis on the impact and criticality of the government and private dairies' participation in supporting the dairy farmers and optimising the dairy production capacities. It highlights the major challenges faced by the small and marginal dairy farmers and a new approach towards solving these challenges in all possible ways.
