CII as an industry association has been working hard in evolving State level awareness about IPR, helping industries in protection of their IP, protecting GIs, consulting industries in evolving policies, national and international seminars and conferences in association with the Government of India, State Governments and international bodies like World Intellectual Property Organization. It has had one to one discussions with some State governments regarding setting up instruments and facilities for creating a more robust IP ecosystem. CII firmly believes that States have to play a very important role; States include governments, industries, academic and research institutions in States, civil societies, individual innovators and courts. The present effort of organizing the IPR Summit was to understand the viewpoints of different stakeholders and combine various ideas and thoughts for conveying them to the governments and building strategies.
To initiate a dialogue on developing a comprehensive IP Strategy and delivery mechanism in the States, CII in partnership with the Government of India and willing State governments organized a one day National IP Summit on 26 April 2013 (26 April is celebrated as World IP Day all over the world) in New Delhi. The report details the same.
