On the occasion of the World Intellectual Property Day, the Tamil Nadu Technology Development and Promotion Centre (TNTDPC) of CII organized a seminar on ‘Leveraging Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for a Creative and Innovative India’ on 25 April, 2015 in Chennai. A report on “Mapping The Intellectual Property Landscape in Tamil Nadu” was released during the seminar.
The objective of the study was to focus on the following outputs (a) to identify the level of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) awareness amongst the Stakeholders (b) to analyze the statistical data of number of Patents, Designs, Trademarks & Geographical Indications filed from Tamil Nadu and (c) to prepare a report for the Government of Tamil Nadu on the impact of IPR and the level of readiness industries and institutes hold to utilize IP for growth.
The report covers Patents, Trademarks, Designs and Geographical Indications only and emphasizes the filings trends, awareness and commercialization aspects. The statistical data on Patents is from 2005-2014, Designs is from 2009-2014 and Trademark from 2004 - 2014.
The support and suggestions received from various members of the Steering Committee, Government Agencies, Indian Patent Office, Industries, Academia, Research Institutions, Experts and other stakeholders were highly appreciated.
